François Castonguay contributes to parliamentary discussions on antimicrobial resistance

On October 6, François Castonguay, CIRANO Researcher and Professor at the School of Public Health of the Université de Montréal (ESPUM), had the honour of appearing before the Standing Committee on Science and Research of the House of Commons in Ottawa as part of discussions on antimicrobial resistance, a major global public health issue.

In his testimony, he highlighted that antimicrobial resistance is a multisectoral issue affecting human, animal, and environmental health, calling for a “One Health” approach based on stronger intersectoral cooperation. He also underlined the importance of leveraging economic science tools to identify priority interventions and guide public investments toward actions with the greatest social return.

This contribution aligns with CIRANO’s mission to bring scientific evidence to inform public decision-making and support evidence-based policy development.

The full argument presented before the Committee is available on the official website of the House of Commons.

CIRANO congratulates François Castonguay for this important contribution to parliamentary discussions and acknowledges the valuable collaboration of François Arès, Caroline Raymond, and Nicolas Macia in this work.
